How a Weekend Bet Became InsuranceClouds
Twenty years ago, I made a promise I wasn't sure I could keep. A company called ATM Insurance out of Orange County needed an inspection management system. Their CEO, Michael, and I were talking, and I told him I could deliver it over the weekend. His response: if I delivered it, they'd pay. If I didn't, they had no obligation at all.
It was a bet. And I was going to build it in 48 hours.
At the time, I was working with Michael directly, building custom software for his agency. ATM Insurance was doing things the old-fashioned way - paper inspections, manual tracking, phone calls to follow up. They needed something better, and they needed it fast.
I delivered. The inspection management system worked. Michael paid. And that weekend project became the foundation of what would eventually become InsuranceClouds.
But here's the thing - the inspection system was just the beginning. Once Michael saw what was possible, the requests kept coming. "Can it also track policies?" "Can it handle renewals?" "Can we get quotes through it?" Each request revealed another piece of the puzzle, another workflow that needed digitizing.
What started as an inspection tool was evolving into something much bigger - a complete insurance management system. And we were doing it at a time when "online insurance management" barely existed. There were a handful of players in the market, but most agencies were still running on desktop software, spreadsheets, and filing cabinets.
We were building the future of insurance technology, one weekend at a time.
